Margrit Kennedy:
In retrospect, the international conference „Monetary Regionalisation“ and the 4th Regiogeld Summit, which took place from 28th of September to 1st of October 2006 at the Bauhaus University in Weimar, mark an important milestone in the history of the local currency movement in Germany, Switzerland and Austria. Compared to earlier conferences, the number of participants has risen and their diversity has increased significantly. For the first time, a meeting of international academic experts was twinned with a summit of practitioners.
The atmosphere and exchange of information which came out of this combination had a stimulating effect on both sides. Especially the cooperation and numerous new projects – particularly those deriving from discussions with politicians – are of incredible value to the young movement.
In my opinion, it is an essential move to release both events on DVD, especially to give those people who were not there the chance to listen to the speeches and discussions. The DVD is full of content and highly recommendable for educational purposes. I hope this DVD will serve to give further impetus to running initiatives and reach many people.
The material gives some idea of the feeling of new departures which we felt during those four days. I believe we stand at a turning point, where the subject of local currencies is moving more and more into public awareness. This can be attributed to the growing number of initiatives, practical examples and events like the ones just staged in Weimar. This is why I would like thank all participants, speakers and last but not least the conference team in Weimar, among them the three main organisers Iris Dähnke, Ludwig Schuster and Kay Vosshenrich, for their contribution to the events. They have given valuable input to all initiatives and initiators.
I wish you a pleasurable multi medial experience with this DVD and hope that you will receive valuable new ideas, knowledge and material for inspiring discussions.
